Save the elephant

Synthcurious call on the Council, Culture Coventry, local businesses, and all local promoters and bands to back Alan Denyer in his bid to save the Sports Centre, and turn it into a centre for the arts.

Not only is this an iconic building that would be treasured in any other city in the world, but this would be a perfect focal point for our upcoming City of Culture 2021 year. And what better legacy than to have a facility like this in the very heart of the city.

If the events held over the last few months at CET are anything to go by, this would be a real asset for the city going forward.

Deliaphonic 2018//Artist Profile//Ian Helliwell

IH

We are delighted to confirm that this year The Tin Music and Arts and Synthcurious welcome Ian Helliwell to open Deliaphonic 2018.

Musician, composer, filmmaker, animator, electronic instrument builder, collagist, performer, writer, creative researcher, installation exhibitor, designer…. and author of the acclaimed book Tape Leaders: A Compendium of Early British Electronic Music Composers.

In 1991, Ian established his bedroom recording lab (still operational today), and began his earliest forays into electronic music with 4 track cassette radio collages. He started building simple tone generators which grew into a series of numberedĀ Hellitrons. More sophisticated multi-circuit machines orĀ Hellisizers, have augmented this unique range of self-constructed, creatively soldered instruments, which provide all the electronically generated sounds for Ian’s compositions.

Ian will start the event with a series of short films, many of which will be screened for the first time. Following this with a live performance.

To get us all in the mood for this years Deliaphonic event we will be having another sound installation at the CET building the week before, on Saturday the 28th April.

It will be totally live, as before. So expect a totally different sonic experience. We may even bring along some reel-to-reel tape decks, for some live tape manipulation.

A reminder that it is our rescheduled Live Sound Installation at CET in Coventry tomorrow. The Synthcurious curators will be joined by local musician Tim Seeley for what promises to be a truly unique sonic experience.

The performance will start at 12 noon with a 440Hz tone. After that, anything is possible, as the event will involve live modular patching and synth programming.

On Saturday the 2nd December Synthcurious and friends will be performing a Live Sound Installation at the CET building in Corporation Street, Coventry.

Set in one of the print halls of the former Coventry Evening Telegraph building the event will be an improvised experiment using analogue synthesisers to exploit the acoustics of this unique space.
