Save the elephant

Synthcurious call on the Council, Culture Coventry, local businesses, and all local promoters and bands to back Alan Denyer in his bid to save the Sports Centre, and turn it into a centre for the arts.

Not only is this an iconic building that would be treasured in any other city in the world, but this would be a perfect focal point for our upcoming City of Culture 2021 year. And what better legacy than to have a facility like this in the very heart of the city.

If the events held over the last few months at CET are anything to go by, this would be a real asset for the city going forward.

Deliaphonic 2018//Artist profile//White Noise

Born out of the ashes of Unit Delta Plus, White Noise formed when Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson met and started to work with David Vorhaus. Sessions held late at night in the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in Maida Vale eventually gave birth to the seminal album, An Electric Storm.

A true electronic music pioneer and innovator, David has continued his unique musical journey with further White Noise releases over the years, and is now joined in White Noise by fellow sound artist Mike Painter.

White Noise will be playing some tracks from An Electric Storm, along with more contemporary pieces. The perfect way to celebrate Delia’s birthday.

Deliaphonic 2018//Artist Profile//Ian Helliwell

IH

We are delighted to confirm that this year The Tin Music and Arts and Synthcurious welcome Ian Helliwell to open Deliaphonic 2018.

Musician, composer, filmmaker, animator, electronic instrument builder, collagist, performer, writer, creative researcher, installation exhibitor, designer…. and author of the acclaimed book Tape Leaders: A Compendium of Early British Electronic Music Composers.

In 1991, Ian established his bedroom recording lab (still operational today), and began his earliest forays into electronic music with 4 track cassette radio collages. He started building simple tone generators which grew into a series of numbered Hellitrons. More sophisticated multi-circuit machines or Hellisizers, have augmented this unique range of self-constructed, creatively soldered instruments, which provide all the electronically generated sounds for Ian’s compositions.

Ian will start the event with a series of short films, many of which will be screened for the first time. Following this with a live performance.
