Thank you to everyone who attended the taster event at Drapers Bar earlier! It was a chance for an improvised performance using the modulars, and great to meet some new people interested in electronic music in Coventry.

See you at the main event…

20/03/15: Sonic Boom at the Coal Vaults Coventry

Sonic Boom is the alias of Pete Kember, also known as the singer-guitarist in the legendary hypno-drone unit Spacemen 3. While attending art college Kember teamed with Jason Pierce to form Spacemen 3, recording a demo tape in 1986; after signing to Glass Records, the group recorded their debut LP Sound of Confusion, for which Kember adopted the name Peter Gunn. By the time of their follow-up EP Walkin’ with Jesus, he had rechristened himself Sonic Boom, keeping the pseudonym for the duration of his career. Sonic Boom was also the driving force behind the Experimental Audio Research project, a loose configuration of musicians which included My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields. Both the Spectrum and Sonic Boom projects have existed in parallel, and recordings under both names occasionally only feature Kember. Kember has also played and collaborated with Stereolab and Yo La Tengo.

Aion takes inspiration from iconic Moog module designs, adapting and scaling them down to the Eurorack format while keeping that classic sound.

The modules are currently on limited release, and Synthcurious are excited to have them on show at the event – come along and have a listen!

A larger production run of the modules will be announced soon, for further information, visit http://www.aion-modular.com

Are you synthcurious?

**Programme will be updated on a regular basis – please check back for details**

Synthcurious is the first in a series of electronic music events in Coventry. Curated by Alex Miles and Ian Campbell, with support from The Tin Music and Arts, and funding from Arts Council England and Coventry City Council, its intention is to demystify electronic music synthesisers, and make them more accessible to others, through live performances, modular synth meetings, films, and DIY synth workshops.

In an age when synths are more widely available and affordable than ever, there has never been a better time to be synthcurious.

Location: The Coal Vaults, the Tin, Coventry
