21/03/15: Wrangler at the Coal Vaults Coventry

Wrangler are: Stephen Mallinder (Cabaret Voltaire), Benge (The Maths), Phil Winter (Tunng/Lone Taxidermist)

Wrangler consists of Stephen Mallinder, best known for his pioneering work with Cabaret Voltaire, Phil Winter of Tunng and Lone Taxidermist, plus the founder of Memetune studios and synth obsessive Benge (John Foxx And The Maths). His studio’s synth-rammed walls have created an environment where sounds are ripped from a golden era of analogue electronic music to create forward-looking, new music.Wrangler formed in the wires of Memetune – a post-LCD, Factory Floor-ed electronic funk machine with VHS tape distortion in its eyes but also capable of sleekness and beauty in the stripped back beats.

With support from Coventry band Attrition. Formed by Martin Bowes and Julia Waller, influenced by a mix of punk ideology and experimental art aesthetics, they emerged as part of the early ’80’s UK Industrial scene. Unexplored sonic landscapes with an eclectic marriage of experimental and traditional sound, of electronics and acoustics, of male and female.

Are you synthcurious?

**Programme will be updated on a regular basis – please check back for details**

Synthcurious is the first in a series of electronic music events in Coventry. Curated by Alex Miles and Ian Campbell, with support from The Tin Music and Arts, and funding from Arts Council England and Coventry City Council, its intention is to demystify electronic music synthesisers, and make them more accessible to others, through live performances, modular synth meetings, films, and DIY synth workshops.

In an age when synths are more widely available and affordable than ever, there has never been a better time to be synthcurious.

Location: The Coal Vaults, the Tin, Coventry
